It's World Emoji Day (July 17). π
What emoji do you use most frequently?
Do emoji make you π€£ or π?
Do you already know what they all mean, or do you have to look them up in emojipedia?
Do you use emoji like the rest of your generation?
As this study suggests, do you find me less competent as an instructor because I occasionally use emoji in class communications?
Happy World Emoji Day! I took the quiz in the CNN article to check what generation I am when texting. Here are the results I got:
ReplyDeleteEmojis: Completely Millennial
Punctuation: Mostly Millennial, with a dash of Gen X
Style and etiquette: Mostly Millennial, with a dash of Baby Boomer
LOL they were more or less accurate π
I had to go find this quiz as I love online quizzes.
DeleteTurns out I am equally Gen Z, Millennial, and Gen X when it comes to emoji. I think it really depends on the context, but I'm generally in support of emoji, haha.
I took the quiz as well! For emojis, I was mostly Millennial with a dash of Gen X which felt accurate. I could not help but chuckle, though, at my punctuation rating as "Baby Boomer with a dash of Gen X" as I am at the ripe age of 29...
DeleteInteresting study! I don't have any negative feelings towards using emojis in academic contexts. Emojipedia is new to me! My go to emoji is usually a π or π. I frequently use the keyboard shortcuts at work to include emojis in work messages. On a PC it's Windows Key + . and on a Mac it's control + command + space
ReplyDeleteHappy Emoji Day ~
Wow thanks for sharing the keyboard shortcut hack! π€©
DeleteI did not know about this shortcut either! π§‘
DeleteOoh awesome shortcut! Thank you!
DeleteI find you more human because you occasionally use an emoji and I love it!
